I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who shared our Donors Choose Project and those of you who donated to it! As of right now 11:30 am, we are only $72 away from getting the iPads!!! I was worried this project wouldn't get funded and it looks like it may get funded MONTHS ahead of the deadline!! If you haven't donated or shared the link and would like to, here it is. I have also updated our Amazon Wishlist and included cases on it.
Hello wonderful families! Boy has it been a RAINY week! I know the kids are ready to have lots of time outdoors. Hopefully we will get cooler temperatures and sunny days next week. Fingers crossed! This week students were able to complete Math Centers and they all seemed to really enjoy it. Here are the centers we will do each week (the order varies depending on their group).
M- Meet with Teacher
A - At your seat: Students work independently at their desks
T - Technology: Students use the chrome books to complete online activities in Google Classroom
H - Hands On: Students play a game or complete another Hands-On activity.
On Fridays, we take our weekly assessment over skills we have done and students have "Ketchup and Pickle" time. Students who are in the Ketchup group have work they need to complete. Students who have completed all their work for the week are "pickles". They get to pick from 5 different math related activities.
Here is what i have planned for the upcoming week:
MONDAY: Students will continue to work with comparing and ordering decimals. They will work with decimal cards as well as use a number line to compare and order.
TUESDAY: Students will work on Adding Whole Numbers.
WEDNESDAY: Students will work on Subtracting Whole Numbers.
THURSDAY: Students will work on subtraction with regrouping as well as subtracting across zeros.
FRIDAY: Students will complete an assessment over comparing and ordering numbers and identifying decimals on a number line.
Decimals on a Number Line
I think that is it for now! Hope you all have a terrific weekend!
Thank you all for coming to Back to School Night last night! I hope that you found it SOMEWHAT entertaining and informative. Students did pretty well overall on today's place value assessment. I will be using the information taken from the assessment to form math groups. I'm hoping that we will have our center rotations and groups up and running the next couple of weeks. Next week, we will continue to review place value and will continue to work with decimals. Here is what I have planned:
MONDAY - Students will focus on tenths and hundredths. They will look at the decimals in picture, word, and standard form. They are still working on being able to read decimals correctly. They like to say "point" for the decimal and I'm telling them that is a BAD word when working with decimals. Instead, they are encouraged to say "and" whenever they see a decimal.
TUESDAY - Students will relate 10ths and 100ths in decimal and fraction form.
WEDNESDAY - Students will look at fractions, decimals, and money. They will work to create a visual representation of a decimal in each of the different forms.
THURSDAY - We will begin working on comparing and ordering decimals. They will use the skills learned during whole place value to help them.
FRIDAY - HOMEWORK DUE!!! Students will take their Decimal Place Value Assessment today.
Here are extra practice sheets if you would like to work on them at home in addition to the homework for this week.
Comparing and Ordering Decimals
Tenths: Fractions and Decimals
Decimals: Hundredths Place
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know! Have a wonderful weekend!
Hello wonderful families! I hope you had a fantastic week! I can't believe we have already been in school for 2 weeks! I have really enjoyed getting to know each one of your children. I hope that they have enjoyed being a part of this class. Students will be bringing home their first math homework assignment today. They should complete and turn it in by next Friday, Sept. 7th. It is a review of rounding and place value. Next week, we will move on to Decimals!!! Here is what I have planned...
Monday - LABOR DAY!!! Have a safe and fun holiday!
Tuesday - Decimals Intro: Students will learn a decimals poem and will look at decimal place value and the value of each digit.
Wednesday - Decimal Place Value Activity: Students will look at Decimals as they are related to fractions with a "How big is a..."
Thursday - Students will work on relating decimals to tenths.
Friday - Students will work on relating decimals to hundredths.
I hope to see you all at back to school night! We will meet in the cafeteria. I understand that some of you may not be able to attend. I will post our Back to School Night information here and send it in an email as well. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you so much for your support!
Good morning wonderful families! I wanted to post some extra practice for rounding in case your child would like to work on building those skills. Here is the link for the extra practice.
Hello wonderful families! I hope you all had a terrific week! This week the class has done a great job of learning MANY new routines and procedures. I'm really proud of their hard work. Next week, we will be continuing to work with place value. It is a review of what they did in 3rd grade and building upon their skills. Here is what I have planned for next week:
Monday - Today we will review the steps for problem solving. Students will also learn a rounding rap and begin to round whole numbers.
Tuesday - We will continue to work on rounding and students will play a Rounding Rodeo Game.
Wednesday - Students will focus to day on comparing numbers. We will use "Pac-Man" as a way to remember which way the greater than and less than symbols face.
Thursday - Today we will review everything we have done so far and students will play "Find a Number Who".
Friday - Students will take their Multiplication Student Learning Objective Pre-Test (also known as the SLO assessment). This assessment will help me to plan for our Multiplication Unit.
I think that is it! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Blessings, Mrs. Burke
You will receive an actual copy of this letter this afternoon, but I wanted to post it here for any parents that might not be able to make it to Meet the Teacher.
