We Hello wonderful families! I'm sorry I wasn't able to update the webpage last week. Hopefully your students have been able to share the fun things we have been learning in class. Yesterday, students were given the opportunity to practice multiplying using the distributive property by WRITING ON THEIR DESKS! I stated that they, "shouldn't try this at home." Some of them looked at me like I had lost it. It was a fun way to turn a somewhat not so exciting task into a more engaging activity. This week our focus has been multiplication. Students have learned how to multiply by multiples of 10, and multiply using the distributive property, expanded form, and partial products. I shared with students that we will learn many different ways to multiply and that they will be able to pick the strategy they like the most when problem solving. All of the strategies will build upon each other. Next week, we will continue to work with Multiplication. Here is what I have planned:

MONDAY: NO SCHOOL! Student-led conferences!

TUESDAY: Students will solve multi-step multiplication problems. We are focusing on students using "CUBES" when problem solving, labeling their answers, and showing their work. Students will need to complete Go Math pages 257-258 for Homework because we are running a little behind from our AR Assembly.

WEDNESDAY: Students will learn what is often called the "box method" for multiplication. With this strategy students expand the numbers and then multiply. Here is extra practice if you would like for your student to work more at home.

THURSDAY: Students will learn how to multiply with regrouping. Here is extra practice.

FRIDAY: Students will problem solve by multiplying 2-digit numbers.

***We will assess everything students have learned in our Multiplication Unit on October 17th.***

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Hope you have an amazing week!

Blessings,

Mrs. Burke
